Tomorrow the trek begins!

Tomorrow at 6am, Craig and I begin our 4-day trek to Machu Picchu.

We met our guide, Richard, today. We have a private group, just the two of us, which means more helpers than trekkers. Besides Richard, we’ll have a cook and a horseman on our trip. Yeesh, makes me think of those rich British poachers Tarzan was always having to set straight —you know, the ones who hauled their phonograph and wicker furniture out in into the jungle?

oops, sorry. Couldn’t find any pics of those hunters, so this shot of Ron Ely in a loincloth will have to do.

OK, like the first few seconds of this clip:

We’re not taking the overcrowded Inca Trail, we’re going around the back way (Lares Trek) which should be wide open, with lots of opportunities to meet the Andean people along the way.

I will take a zillion photos and let you all know how the trek is! Meanwhile, here’s another gratuitous Tarzan pic, this time from Greystoke, the Legend of Tarzan:
